| What will be the role of European forests in the fight against climate change? How is the region preparing for change? How can countries best use wood for energy? How can the forest and water communities deliver as one to protect ecosystem services? These are some of the topics up for discussion at the 35th session of the FAO European Forestry Commission to be held on 27-30 April 2010 in Lisbon, Portugal. The European Forestry Commission (EFC) is one of six Regional Forestry Commissions established by FAO to provide a policy and technical forum for countries to discuss and address forest-related issues on a regional basis. It meets every two years. FAO encourages wide participation of government officials from forestry and other sectors as well as representatives of international, regional and sub regional organizations that deal with forest-related issues in the region, including NGOs, and the private sector. The session is structured around presentations from a list of speakers coming from a diverse range of backgrounds: from governments to trade associations to forest owner organizations. Ample time for discussion and questions from the floor will follow each panel session. | ||||||
