Organizing International Soil Science Congresses is a long established custom of the SSST, the first of which was held in 1998 in İzmir. The 2nd congress was held in Konya in 2000, which dealt with desertification. The 3rd congress was organized by Onsekiz Mart University in Çanakkale, 2002. The 4th Congress was held in Erzurum in 2004, organized by the Atatürk University, the
5th congress was held in 2006 in Şanlıurfa organized by the Harran University and the 6th congress was organized by the Adnan Menderes University in Aydın, 2008. The 7th and the latest International Soil Science Congress was organized by Ondokuz Mayıs University in Samsun in 2010.
