Sidwell Again Chosen to Provide GIS Services by Dickinson County, Kansas

In early 2009, Dickinson County decided to continue the process of improving the spatial accuracy of the data related to land use classifications throughout the County, in order to further facilitate the assessment of agricultural parcels. As a result of their satisfaction with the cadastral data received through their 2008 project, the County again looked to Sidwell to help them achieve their accuracy objectives for this important data. Based on Sidwell’s depth of expertise in land use classifications and aerial photo interpretation, the County knew they could count on Sidwell’s team to update their land use data accurately, while at the same time meeting the needs and standards of the County. According to Sherry Massey, Dickinson County GIS Coordinator: “We decided to go back to Sidwell for our next project because of the incredible customer service we received with the first one. There was great communication throughout the process, and the training we received was very good. But the biggest reason we are return customers is the support we have received since delivery: it has been excellent. In fact, it has been the best after-sale support I have had from any vendor I’ve worked with.
Massey also indicates that some of the biggest benefits the County has reaped from their project were unexpected. “We’ve used the ability to generate a road right-of-way file to help with engineering issues; we’ve added tags to the database to help us track administrative boundaries like ESN’s, taxing units, and voter precincts; and we have been able to do more accurate calculations for taxable area of parcel splits. Ultimately, we produce more accurate, reliable, and visually pleasing property maps” Massey concluded “Because of our association with Sidwell, our county has high-quality GIS data, and we feel we have an ally in providing great GIS services to our clients.”
With this project, Sidwell continues its history of providing professional land records and parcel management services to local government entities in the state of Kansas, including the counties of Geary, Kiowa, Reno, Sedgwick, Shawnee, and Wyandotte.
