Now, GPS waypoints and tracks collected on the PN-Series devices can be easily imported and displayed within Terrain Navigator map data.
This announcement represents a "best of both worlds" scenario for law enforcement, search and rescue volunteers, and others who rely on both Terrain Navigator mapping software and Earthmate PN-Series receivers.
PN-Series users can now simply save the waypoints and tracks onto an SD card in a .gpx file format. Terrain Navigator Pro will then import and directly display the waypoint and track files, which can be saved for a multitude of reference and planning needs.
"This simple enhancement is excellent news for both DeLorme and MyTopo," said Jim Skillings, DeLorme Vice President, Business Division. "We can now provide users of Terrain Navigator software with direct access to our fast-growing portfolio of PN-series GPS technologies."
"MyTopo is pleased that DeLorme has made changes to its GPS device to allow interoperability with our Terrain Navigator software," added Kevin Toohill, CEO of MyTopo. "This will be welcomed by those who rely on both our products in the field."
The DeLorme firmware solution avoids additional processing for format conversion. This is particularly important in time sensitive applications such as search and rescue.
Existing PN-Series users can download a free firmware update (Version 2.7) to enable the needed .gpx file saving capabilities. Henceforth, any PN-Series devices purchased with
DeLorme XMap 7 software will already have the firmware update installed.
