UPC's Eye on Earth Summit Participation Undersocres Its Sustainability Commitment

Estidama, a vision to achieve a new sustainable way of life in the Arab world, is an initiative developed by UPC to achieve the late Ruler of Abu Dhabi and the UAE’s first President, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s dream of a truly sustainable Emirate.

At various panel discussions through the Summit, UPC also discussed how Abu Dhabi has entered the global debate on sustainability with its strategic Abu Dhabi Urban Vision 2030 message.

H.E Falah Al Ahbabi, General Manager, UPC said: “Eye on Earth has gathered together some of the world’s most influential thought leaders and experts to discuss and debate key challenges and issues affecting our planet, and we are proud to have joined forces and in playing a significant role in raising Abu Dhabi’s level of self-awareness in order to develop a more holistic way of improving sustainability in our region.

“Our message to the world is that we are working to create a sustainable future, particularly through our unique Estidama sustainability programme, and how Abu Dhabi is well-positioned to be a catalyst for meticulously planned 21st century capitals.”

UPC constantly pushed the message that sustainable cities, developed in the correct manner and with a holistic approach, are more attractive and will act as a magnet for commerce and industry. Developing tailored measurement systems such as “CitySense” will assist in measuring performances through dedicated indicators.

Estidama’s four pillars of sustainability are centred around Economy, Environment, Society and Culture. “In our various debates at the Summit we explained how these four pillars will help us identify, prioritise and assert the key interactions between these elements at the community level,” said Al Ahbabi.

An impressive 23 square metre long model of the city plans took a central role in the Abu Dhabi pavilion at the exhibition, allowing visitors to see for themselves the pioneering vision of the Abu Dhabi Government in the realm of sustainable urban planning for the UAE capital.
