Last year saw the highly successful launch of Socium’s first offering, the Online Validation Service. This cloud based service enables users to validate their data against a range of pre-defined business rules and under a free version, provides them with a quantitative analysis of the quality of their data in literally a matter of seconds.
The service was launched to open up the benefits of data quality to everyone irrespective of their budget or technical knowledge. It provides an easy to use service which, being cloud based and offering a SaaS pricing model, eliminates all the costs involved in a traditional vendor solution such as the need to invest in infrastructure, software, training, maintenance etc.
There are a number of business rules that already exist within the service such as Geometric, Network and Polygon validation rule sets. The challenge however offers the opportunity for users to request new rule sets that they would like to see within the service that would really help them with a specific data quality challenge they currently have. Socium will then create those rules and make them available within the service. The additional value here is those new rules will be made available to all users of the service enabling everyone within the Socium community to benefit from the experiences and knowledge of others.
Duncan Guthrie, Managing Director, Socium said:
“The start of a new year gives us all the chance to approach things with a fresh energy and make changes and improvements to the way we do things. We regularly speak to people who work with spatial data who have data quality at the top of their priority list but simply don’t have the budget or time to put towards a traditional data clean project.
“This is where we believe we can help and think January is a great time to get started. We’re giving organisations the opportunity to get in touch with us and discuss their current data challenges. It could be something as simple as ensuring the accuracy of planning polygons or something more complex, either way we are keen for the challenge. Whatever the data issue is we can use our consulting experience and create a set of rules free of charge that we can put into the service ready for use. The challenge is a great way to make sure the rules within the Online Validation Service are providing maximum value to our user community.”
If you are experiencing any data quality or maintenance issues with any of your data sets then why not seize the spirit of the New Year and get in touch with Socium so that they can get started on your challenge.
