This approach saves project time, labor, and cost by eliminating the wiring from room sensors to the controller network. Further, the approach mitigates the maintenance costs of other wireless technologies as there are no batteries to replace. In addition, the new sensors can be mounted to alternate building materials such as stone, metal, or glass, thereby providing for greater design freedom.
"We're clearly pursuing low-hanging fruit through this introduction," says Erich Kreuter, hardware product manager for KMC. "What I mean by that is that the traditional, wired installation of space sensors requires resources of material, time, and labor. All that leads to increased costs. Such costs discourage the use of more sensors which could, in turn, lead to greater levels of monitoring, comfort control, and energy management."
"System integrators, and manufacturers like KMC, have been waiting a long time for an easy and seamless way to integrate wireless sensors and other peripherals to their existing BACnet systems. CAN2GO provides this missing link; allowing building owners and managers to benefit from wireless sensing and control. Each gateway can handle dozens of wireless points and automatically convert them to BACnet Ethernet or IP." said Louis-Nicolas Hamer, VP of Product Marketing and Business Development at SCL Elements, manufacturer of CAN2GO products.
Current models of KMC wireless sensors include those for temperature and humidity sensing as well as user control of setpoint. A further expansion of this line is planned. Both CAN2GO and KMC Controls are members of the EnOcean Alliance (www.enocean-alliance.org).
About SCL Elements Inc. / CAN2GO
SCL Elements Inc. provides CAN2GO building automation solutions for comfort and energy efficiency in commercial buildings. CAN2GO offers integrated wired and wireless solutions for HVAC, lighting & metering applications. CAN2GO controllers, gateways and web based building management system (BEMS) allow facility managers, contractors and OEM manufacturers to deploy building automation systems (BAS) combining wired (BACnet, Modbus, CANbus), wireless (EnOcean, ZigBee) and web (IP/Ethernet) technologies - providing maximum interoperability and control for more energy savings.
About KMC Controls
KMC Controls has been designing and manufacturing building automation solutions, HVAC control products and energy management solutions for more than 40 years. KMC remains the only privately held controls manufacturer with a full line of digital, electronic, and pneumatic products. Its professional affiliations include BACnet International and USGBC, among others. KMC maintains regional sales offices throughout the U.S. and distributes its solutions and products through value-added, authorized installing contractors, wholesalers, and original equipment manufacturers throughout North America as well as authorized distributors worldwide.
