The Canadian Institute of Geomatics Appoints Sierra System’s Simon Lanoix as Its President

“We are pleased that Simon Lanoix will continue CIG’s mission to advance the development of geomatics sciences in Canada,” said Pierre Gravel, past president of the Canadian Institute of Geomatics. “Simon’s ongoing dedication and valuable contributions to CIG underscores the commitment that he will bring to his role as president of this esteemed organization.”
Simon Lanoix’s leadership role as president of CIG includes representing and promoting Canadian interests in geomatics to an international audience. Simon will continue to focus on fostering cooperation and collaboration among Canadian geomatics organizations and in enhancing public awareness on the role geomatics plays in their daily lives. CIG will also proudly continue to maintain a publication of record of the history, development and progress of geomatics in Canada though its scientific technical journal, Geomatica. And the organization looks forward to furthering the professional development of its members by providing professional networking events, educational offerings and topical publications.
“As a proponent of Canada’s many natural resources, I am honored to accept the nomination of president for the Canadian Institute of Geomatics by my fellow peers,” said Simon Lanoix, president, Canadian Institute of Geomatics. “I look forward to working closely with our organization, other associated organizations and the many government institutions and private companies in upholding standards and best practices within our growing Geomatics field.”
Throughout his career, Simon Lanoix has provided strategic consulting and planning, program and project management and process re-engineering to top government and private organizations. Simon’s proven experience spans more than two decades across a wide range of industries including forestry, natural resources, health, and education fostering and promoting the use of Geospatial information.
