Minister Raitt Applauds Canadian Industrial Energy Efficiency Leaders

“The Government of Canada congratulates companies that have received the CIPEC Leadership Awards for their incredible achievements,” said the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources. “Improving our energy efficiency while increasing the competitiveness of Canadian companies is a homegrown success story.”

The winning companies demonstrated energy efficiency leadership in corporate stewardship, process and technology improvements, employee awareness and other areas. The projects were judged according to their contribution to the environment in terms of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improvement in environmental sustainability and cost effectiveness.

“CIPEC is a successful voluntary partnership between the Government of Canada and industry that helps strengthen Canada’s corporate commitment to industrial energy efficiency,” said Mr. Glenn Mifflin, Chair of the CIPEC Executive Board and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of North Atlantic Refining. “These award winners are true leaders in the industry.”

The CIPEC Annual Report 2009 was also released at the Energy 2009 Conference. The report outlines the energy efficiency accomplishments of Canadian industry, profiles more than 20 industrial sectors and notes their energy intensity improvements, targets and challenges. The Energy 2009 Conference, Canada’s foremost industrial energy efficiency conference, offers workshops on topical subjects such as energy efficiency as a co-benefit of lean manufacturing, waste heat recovery, employee awareness, energy management for sustained benefits and global carbon markets from a Canadian industry perspective.
