Deliberations of the International Conference on Drought Management Strategies Continues

The second day of the conference included 26 working papers that were divided into five sessions that focused on International and Regional Cooperation for Drought Mitigation and Impact of Drought on Water Resources, Impacts of Drought in Iran, Introducing the International Drought Initiative, IDI, Drought Monitoring, Planning and Management, Application of Remote Sensing and GIS in Drought, Drought Assessment, Environmental and Socio-economic Impacts Innovation and Technology to Cope with Water Scarcity & Drought and Management of Water Resources Recharge to Control Drought and Sea Water Intrusion.

The first working paper on ' The Use of Treated Water in Drought Management in Muscat Governorate by Said al- Muselhi, from Oman Waste Water Services Company. The second working paper on Water Harvesting from Fog and Air Humidity in the Warm and Coastal Regions Under Drought Conditions; a study case in Southern Iran, was presented by Rahman Davtalab and Ali Riza Salamat. The third working paper on Coastal Aquifer Management Models: A Comprehensive Review was presented by R.K. Bhattachurijya, from the Indian Institute of Technology. The fourth working paper was on Flood Protection and Recharge Groundwater in the Al Batinah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman .

The fifth working paper on Managed Aquifer Recharge of Reclaimed Water as an Adaptive Strategy to Drought was presented by Robert G. Maliva, Huda al- Ajmi, Dr. Nilson Guigner, Frank Winslow from Shelmberger Water Servcies Company.
The sixth working paper on the  Impact of Sedimentation on Recharge Groundwater at Sahalnowt Dam, Salalah  was presented by Dr. Sanmangam Prathapar & Abdullah Ali Bawain from the Regional Municipalities and Water Resources Ministry.
The working paper on Effects of Damlocations on Groundwater Recharge Efficiency was presented by Theodor Strobl, Dr. Ing. Frank Kleist & Eng. Omar Sheth.

The working paper on Maximizing Economic Efficiency for the Joint Use of Water in Arid Land was presented by Dr. Sauad Mohamed Sherif from the College of Business Administration, Sharjah University.

The working paper on Nuclear Techniques in Water Resources Management in Jordan was presented by Mohammad Radwan Almomani from  Jordan.

The working paper on Basin Scale meteorological Drought Forecasting Using Support Vector Machine (SVM) was presented by Prof. Banafsheh Zahraie  and  Mohsen Nasser, Iran.

The working paper on Combating Drought Condition by Polymer Application and Growth Promoter  was presented by Dr.Ahmed al- Busaidi, from the College of Agriculture and Marine Sciences, SQU.

The working paper on Optimal Use of Water to Combat Drought  was presented by Mohammed Azam Joya, Pakistan.

The working paper on the Optimal Management Model for Conjuctive Use of Desalinated Water and Groundwater for Meeting Long Term Domestic Water Needs in the A'Sharqiyah Governorates,  was presented by Eng. Said Khamis al- Khamisi of the PAEW and  A.J. Adeloye from Edinburgh University U.K .

The working paper on Monitoring of Salinity Changes in the Salalah Coastal Aquifer  (1995 -2010) was presented by Eng. Tariq Helmi & Eng. Ahmed al- Barwani, Sultanate of Oman.

The working paper on Rainwater Harvesting Practices for Sustaining Agricultural Productivity and Flood Management in the Arab Region was presented by Dr. Ihab Jnad, Syria.

The working paper on Drought Management Strategies Adopted in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions of India was presented by Dr. H. J. Shiva Prasad, India.

The working paper on Investigation of Water Quality in Arid Area: Characterization of Waters in CU and AS, Study Case of  Sohar was presented by Dr. Khadija Semhi , Rashid al- Abri and Salim al- Ghabshi from the MRMWR.

The working paper on Drought Effects Using Remote Sensing and GIS in Mian - Darband Plain, Kermanshah was presented by Mohsen Roshani, Said Bormand, Ubaid Ali and  Bahman Fardhadi  from Iran.

The working paper on PIECEWISE - LINEAR MODEL for Drought Duration Frequency Analysis was presented by Eng. Ibrahim Salih Adam & Prof. Ibrahim Abbas Abdalla from  Sudan.

The programme of the conference includes a field visit for experts and specialists taking part at the conference to Wadi Daiqah Dam in the wilayat of Quriyat in Muscat Governorate and a tour at the tourist attractions in Muscat Governorate.
