Richard Kauffman of Energy Department Announces as Keynote for the NYU Schack Conference on Sustainable Real Estate

Richard Kauffman will speak about several topics including what is needed now to transform and scale-up markets for energy efficiency, Department of Energy initiatives to support and incentivize the real estate/building community, the importance of data and common performance metrics in shaping investments decisions, and how the public and private sectors can work together to accelerate the adoption of energy efficient practices and drive market demand.

Richard L. Kauffman joined the Energy Department in September 2011 to serve as a senior advisor to Secretary Steven Chu.  Kauffman is one of the country’s leading experts on private sector investment in clean energy.  He was chief executive officer of Good Energies, Inc., a leading investor in renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.  Richard was managing director and chaired the Global Financing Group at Goldman Sachs.  He previously served as vice chairman of Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Securities business and co-head of its Banking Department.

Kauffman works with Secretary Chu to expand the Department’s efforts to support the game-changing technologies needed to create the jobs of tomorrow, invest in the clean energy economy, and help ensure America remains competitive in the global marketplace.

The Conference will also feature four panels. Panel 1: “Public Policy, Transparency, and Energy Performance”; Panel 2: “Open Data and the Role of Information Technology”; Panel 3: “Financing Building Energy Efficiency - Overcoming Uncertainty”; and Panel 4: “Investment Performance and Energy Performance – Is There a Link?”

The Conference co-chairs include Relina Bulchandani, director of Connected Real Estate, Cisco; Susan Leeds, chief executive officer, New York City Energy Efficiency Corp.; and Charles B. Leitner III, president and chief executive officer, Greenprint Foundation, and chairman of RREEF.
