PERSPECTIVES
|
Most events connected with spatial data infrastructure (SDI) related projects and work involve government organisations and institutions. In principle, SDI are still very young and adapting – they have yet to form closer links and governance ties, although many existing projects have had some industry participation. Current worldwide economic conditions could act as a spark to begin broader private-public partnerships, shifting SDI from their government and political roots, toward enhanced entrepreneurial opportunities for a growing and widening base of younger people – many of whom are searching for work.

ITT Corporation has spun off its three business units into three standalone, publicly traded companies. ITT Defense & Information Solutions became Exelis, Inc. when this change officially took place on October 31 of this past year. Atlantic - Great Sea Battles, Heroic Discoveries, Titanic Storms and a Vast Ocean of a Million Stories
Simon Winchester writes about the Atlantic Ocean from it's beginning as a geological event to the rich history involving explorers, scientists, cultures, geodesy, and events through time. He describes the basalt formations of eastern Canada to similar formations in Morocco, the beginning of bathymetric mapping, and how Benjamin Franklin became the father of oceanography. Leif Eriksson appeared on North America shores long before Christopher Columbus and the tale between the two is explained. This book is a wonderful read, filled with fact and information about the continually expanding Atlantic Ocean and all things related to it. |
