ABACO Offers Rich 3D Visualizations that Stream Online #GITA

by Matt Ball on April 28, 2010

I visited with the Italy-based GIS development company ABACO at the GITA conference in Phoenix and was impressed by their DbMAP Flyer 3D visualization capabilities. They’ve put together a technology suite for the creation and online streaming of realistic 3D models that can incorporate LIDAR points.

The company’s tools allow you to make a rich 3D city model rather quickly by draping a high-resolution TIN with detailed building models, and applying building facades with Pictometry imagery.Their simplification of 3D geometries allows for rich interaction and flyovers online.

The company has built a number of these models in Italy, including Florence, Milan, Rome and Naples. These models are being used in Italy for town planning and the management of real estate.

You can view the technology and even an online demo here.
