Australian Mining Industry Sees Greater Promise in GIS

The Australian coal industry has conducted a research projet to assess the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and found that the technology could be used more widely and more effectively. Specifically, the toolset was being assessed for the role it can play in assessing mining subsidence impacts on natural features, with five benefits defined. The study also included investigation of both Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) data.
