Avatar Director James Cameron Promotes NASA Earth Observation

by Matt Ball on August 24, 2010

Avatar director James Cameron filmed a series of short one-minute video clips for NASA touting the importance of earth observation to “help us see how interconnected our ‘real’ planet is.” He discusses the fact that we now know that we are part of the global network called Earth,” and encourages viewers to, “take a look at what NASA’s doing to help us truly see our home.”

It’s great to see this connection between Cameron’s mission-oriented entertainment, and real-world systems and science that will help us to better manage our impacts on our planet. Given his stated passion here for earth observation, and global modeling, perhaps he could be enticed to keynote a geospatial conference. If so, it would provide a nice incentive for technologists, while shining a spotlight on the importance of geospatial technology to the public.
