Each year Scientific Discover through Advanced Computing Conference (SciDAC) has a contest for the best scientific visualizations of the year. This year’s 10 winners include a visualization of a few notable visualizations with a definite geo connection.
- The Big One – illustrates the propagation of a large earthquake along the San Andreas fault in Southern California, showing how an earthquake that starts outside of Palm Springs travels within minutes to Los Angeles and north to Santa Barbara.
- Seasonal CO2 Buildup and Reduction in North America – NASA’s Goddard Earth Observing Model shows how carbon dioxide builds during the winter months and drops during summer.
