Building a Sustainability Strategy Into the Rhythm of Business

Jorma Ollila, currently chairman of Royal Dutch Shell and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, addressed the National Press Club in Washington recently. His speech emphasized a shift in business as usual due to climate change and the pressures of growing populations, and urged business to create a constructive partnership with government and society.

“Building a sustainability strategy into the rhythm of business, will determine the difference between the winners and losers. Only the companies that develop products and services that address global challenges such as energy supply and access, climate change, pressure on ecosystems, or water, will be around for the long haul.”

His speech is worthy of reading, not simply for the assessment of the challenges that we face on our planet, but also for the business opportunities.
