China Cracks Down on Google Maps

The rumors about China’s scrutiny of online mapping sites has proven true. The head of the State Bureau of Surveying and mapping indicates that the aim is to get rid of online maps that wrongly depict China’s borders or that reveal military secrets. The report from People’s Daily names Google as well as China’s Sohu and Baidu as being under investigation. The government began the investigation in April and will continue through the rest of the year.
