China to Launch Environmental Monitoring Satellite

China will launch the Environment 1 satellite this week to monitor the environment and natural disasters. This is the first of eight earth observation satellites that will monitor most of the country daily, with an eye onĀ  flooding, drought, typhoon, landslides and earthquakes.

The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) is set to launch the satellite aboard a Long March 2C carrier with an observational footprint of 720 km.
