I just learned that the First International Conference on the Role of Geographical Information Systems in Promoting Sustainable Development in Africa started Saturday morning in Al-Jafara Shabia.
The conference is being organized by the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science in collaboration with the Post Graduate Academy.
The conference brings together a number of experts, researchers and scientists in the area geographical information systems from the Great Jamahiriya, Egypt, Tunisia, Syria, Iraq, U.S., Britain, Germany, Italy, Malta, Poland, France and India.
Given the topics, sounds like a fascinating conference to attend.

This looks really interesting, but I can’t seem to find a website for it, just other sites posting the same news story you linked to. If you come across a site for this conference, can you post the link? Thanks!
The Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science (http://www.lcrss.org/) contains a PDF download with program details, although the bulk of the site is in Farsi. There’s also a conference website at http://www.alacademia.org/gitsda/, but the link wouldn’t work for me today.
