Developing a World Geospatial Knowledge Platform

APJ Abdul Kalam, the 11th president of the Republic of India, gave a keynote this morning at the Geospatial World Forum in Amsterdam. The address related a wide number of applications of the technology across all sectors of society, yet lamented that the technology still does not reach all citizens. With that goal in mind, Kalam suggested the creation of a World Geospatial Knowledge Platform of core geospatial technologies to improve the core competencies of multiple nations.

The aim is to ensure that GIS can be better used in an integrated way from multiple institutions, and available in a form that others can use. Kalam suggested that all G8 and G20 Nations and the United Nations work together to ensure the benefits of geosptial technologies are reaching needy users on time.
