FEMA Awards $5M for Sea Level Rise Study

The Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded a $5 million grant to the state of North Carolina’s Office of Geospatial Technology Management for a risk assessment and mitigation strategy regarding the potential impacts of sea level rise from climate change. The three-year study aims to quantify the effects of sea level rise along the coast, formulate strategies and assess the economic impacts. This study will complement a FEMA study that is in progress to asses the effect of climate change on the National Flood Insurance Program.
