Google Indexing Text Within Photos

Google recently filed a patent on recognizing text within images. The idea is to index photos to be able to search through them automatically for text. A story in The Register outlines the idea behind the application.

It mentions that this visual search is likely to be first unleashed in Street View tied to mapping, so that you can search for business names and find their location easily. There’s also discussion of tying the search functionality to videos within YouTube.
