Greenland is Melting

picture-1.jpgThis summer saw a record-breaking loss of arctic sea ice. A story in today’s New York Times outlines the trouble in Greenland and is accompanied by a multimedia slideshow and a map-based demonstration with time slider to show the dramatic changes that are taking place. The interactive map also shows atmospheric pressure, air temperature, cloud cover and solar heating.

Glaciologists are nervous and even “shell shocked” by the advancing melting of Greenland’s glaciers. Some fear that the rise in sea level may even exceed the two-foot rise estimated by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change last year.
