Clearly, GIS has a large role to play in achieving more efficient cities, supporting better decisions, and creating a smarter planet. IBM has been promoting their Smarter Planet campaign for years now, and I’ve been wondering for some time how IBM’s message might bring in their partnership with Esri into this message. Today, a YouTube video has been made available that features both Esri founder Jack Dangermond and Steve Mills, Senior Vice President and Group Executive Software & Systems at IBM.
The video speaks to the connection between IBM and Esri for city management. IBM touts Esri’s ability to find and analyze things in geographic space, and promotes the linkage with IBM’s asset management tool Maximo that is now spatially enabled with ArcGIS Server.
