IBM Research Project Aims for “Cognitive Car”

IBM is working with McMaster University on a project to use a multicore microprocessor from a video game into a vehicle in order to integrate the vehicle’s multiple microprocessors. The intent is to integrate the automotive systems to improve vehicle efficiency and safety, while also giving driving real-time visualizations and alerts about traffic congestion. The “cognitive car” becomes a node in a larger transportation network, aiding all drivers with better roadside service, traffic management, air quality management, and emergency services.
