IEEE Launches Earth Observation Game Contest

by Matt Ball on February 11, 2009

The IEEE Committee on Earth Observation (ICEO) has launched two contests to create a computer game that uses earth observations to communicate the impact of real-world events on the Earth and its inhabitants. The first contest just requires an outline to describe the game concept and will award prizes from $100 to $1,000 along with an invitation to attend a computer game development class. The second contest involves the creation of a playable game, with collaboration with IEEE engineers and Global Earth Observation scientists, that will culminate with a $20,000 prize and a trip to the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Summit. The deadline for the first contest is April 10, 2009, with the follow-up contest beginning May 1st and ending June 30th.
