The team at the Center for Urban Research recently created a set of maps that show race and ethnicity patterns from 2000 and 2010 in major cities across the US. The maps use a slider to show the two data sets side by side for comparison. Cities that have been completed to date are New York City, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco, with more coming soon.
These maps provide great levels of interaction that allow you to zoom in close and to click on individual census block for more detailed information. You can also change the transparency to view more of the map or imagery basemaps.
Read a detailed blog post about how the maps were created, including data sources and techniques here. Thanks to @SR_spatial for the great work, and the tip.
