What was once the Intergraph Conference has now become the Hexagon Conference, taking place June 6-9, 2011 in Orlando. The announcement is a logical next step following the acquisition of Intergraph by Hexagon this past July, and provides a platform for the combined company to bring all their different offerings and users together into one combined education and marketing experience. The trend toward large vendor-oriented events within the geospatial industry continues with this announcement, with events such as Esri U/C, Trimble Dimensions, Autodesk University and Bentley’s BE Conference drawing many more attendees than any association conference.
The dates and theme for the event were first announced this Fall as Intergraph 2011 “Building a Smarter World,” and were combining with the Leica Geosystems High-Definition Surveying Conference just a month ago. The conference website now outlines an event that includes an Intergraph track with content for geospatially powered solutions, a Geosystems track with Leica Geosystems and Z/I Imaging for surveying, laser scanning, aerial imagery and positioning, and Hexagon metrology for real-world manufacturing challenges. While ERDAS is mentioned in the overall event announcement, their logo is absent from the outline of conference tracks, most likely because their offering spans the geospatially powered solutions offered by Intergraph and the geosystems track.
The Hexagon 2011 Conference promises to help the company leap forward with their branding and positioning with their chief executive Ola Rollén’s vision of “GIS with Activity.” The convergence of technologies owned by Hexagon holds real promise for next generation geospatial solutions, and getting the whole group under one roof should speed product and service integration.
