Jack Dangermond did a 10-minute video interview with Oliver Kühn about OpenStreetMap and the growing interest in crowdsourced geospatial data at this week’s InterGeo event in Cologne, Germany. ESRI’s open Community Maps Program is one of the focuses of the interview, with a discussion of authoritative source vs. crowdsourced data. Dangermond is enthusiastic about OpenStreetMap, and encourages geo professionals to contribute. He also touts the Community Map as a way for authoritative data providers to maintain their IP and share their data selectively while maintaining control.
