The BillionGrave app provides a resource for history buffs and genealogists to share photos and locations of grave markers. The app facilitates the capture and cataloging of markers that are then shared via the web. The site also hosts a database for the transcription of the headstone so that it can be searched by those looking for ancestor’s graves.
A map-based interface contains the location of cemeteries around the world. The site displays grave markers where they’ve been collected, and encourages volunteers to collect and share data where no collections have yet been made.
The BillionGraves app has been available for the iPhone for about a month and is now available for Android devices. The application and the website are free. To learn more about the project, visit http://BillionGraves.com or the project’s blog, http://BillionGraves.blogspot.com.
