The National Center of Atmospheric Research has created a detailed computer model and visualization that indicates where the oil from the massive spill in the Gulf of Mexico may move. A powerful computer model of the Gulf of Mexico’s Loop Current and the Gulf Stream was used to model and simulate the circulation of the oil. While the simulation and animation aren’t a forecast, they do illustrate the magnitude and extent of this environmental disaster.
