Ordnance Survey Debuts Next-Generation 3D Map

by Matt Ball on October 12, 2009

The United Kingdom’s Ordnance Survey has debuted a three-dimensional map of the coast city of Bournemouth as a preview of a next-generation map. There’s impressive detail here that makes the scene look like a hand-built scale model.

This map was the culmination of a multi-year effort with both aerial and terrestrial LIDAR that was then combined with OS 2D base maps. The Ordnance Survey is touting the accuracy of this approach and asserting that it is much better quality than anything available online to date.

For more detail see this feature via Telegraph.
