Plants Text Message When Thirsty

Farmers have a new tool this year to monitor the health of their crops. The SmartCrop drought monitoring system consists of battery-operated infrared thermometers that can be hooked up to cell phone modems. The devices are placed in irrigated fields and relay their information to a computer base station, sending alerts at specified thresholds.

I love this practical application of the sensor web that conserves water and benefits plant health.
