2011 is being promoted as the International Year of Forests by the UN General Assembly. The aim is to raise awareness for the sustainable management and conservation of all types of forests across the globe. The initiative will officially launch in February at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Member nations are working to support the initiative with events throughout the year, and an International Forest Film Festival is planned.
