The FGDC Releases the Final Geospatial Platform Roadmap

by Matt Ball on April 26, 2011

After months of facilitated feedback, Ivan B. DeLoatch, executive director of the Federal Geographic Data Committee, has announced that the Geospatial Platform Roadmap Version 4 has been completed. The document outlines the portfolio of geospatial data, services and applications that will make up the Geospatial Platform for use by government agencies and partners.

The final document acknowledges that there were concerns raised in the feedback phase that could not yet be addressed, and that they will continue to  provide documents and details on the implementation strategy. Among the issues are the selection of a Managing Partner and defining the role and responsibilities, as well as the funding model. Next steps on implementation include the development of a business plan, strategies to address operation, and guidance documents to steer implementation.
