The Geography of Buzz

The New York Times reports on research that was presented at the Association of American Geographers that locates hot spots based on the number of cultural events that take place there, such as gallery openings, fashion shows, concerts, film screenings and live acts. The authors set out to discover both the location of cultural hot spots in the United States and to quantify spatially how these places work.
