Trimble and SmartBin Team on Sensor Network for Recycling

by Matt Ball on February 10, 2012

SmartBin, an Ireland-based sensor system that monitors the fill levels of recycling containers, and Trimble, a Calif.-based positioning technology company, have teamed to combine sensors and location for more efficient solutions for the environmental services and recycling markets. The bin sensors will be coupled with positioning technology, fleet management, asset management and other logistics and workflow solutions in a comprehensive suite to improve productivity and efficiency.

Trimble has a number of workforce applications and manufactures rugged in-vehicle computing and positioning technologies. Improved route optimization along with just-in-time pickup of full containers is projected to save considerable fuel costs, aid worker productivity, and drive down fleet size and cost.

Trimble will have worldwide rights to SmartBin’s wireless monitoring technologies under the agreement, for integration as well as the manufacture of new products. Remote monitoring and management systems,  coupled with in-vehicle fleet management applications, is a compelling combination of sensors and systems.
