Unesco Maps Global Freshwater Aquifers

by Matt Ball on October 24, 2008

UNESCO is all set to publish the first-ever world map of underground aquifers. The map will include details on 273 transboundary aquifers (crossing country lines), with 68 in the Americas, 38 in Africa, 65 in Eastern Europe, 90 in Western Europe and 12 in Asia.

This is the first global inventory of aquifers that will be launched next week as part of the Convention of Transboundary Aquifers. You can read the Press Release announcement here, and I’ll be sure to report with the link next week.
