Volunteers Blanket NYC to Make Streets More Walkable

by Matt Ball on April 20, 2010

The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has organized a survey of the streets of New York City in order to make the city more walkable for all generations. The event takes place throughout this week, and is being coordinated with the city council. The aim is to make street intersections and sidewalks safer, particularly for the elderly, because pedestrian accidents are the second leading cause of death for people over the age of 45.

This effort is the first time the city has had a comprehensive pedestrian safety survey.
