Artist Alisa Toninato is working on casting each state of the United States as an iron skillet that all come together as a large-scale iron skillet map of the country. Toninato has completed the Midwest and East Coast so far, but needs to complete 28 more states for the project to be complete. She’s turning to a professional foundry to finish the casting as she only has one month to finish the project for entry in an ArtPrize compeition. In order to realize here goal, she’s using the online project pledging site KickStarter to fund the project. The project has proven to be quite popular, as it has already attracted more than 100 backers and has exceeded her goal.
